Sexually transmitted infections can lead to a wide variety of unpleasant symptoms; from sores and swellings, to scabs and smells. With unpleasant symptoms like these, it’s no surprise that the sooner you can identify what STI is affecting you the better. In this way you stand the best chance of getting the infection under control and returning to normality.

There’s no denying the importance of undergoing tests to ensure that you’re not infected with an STI, especially as up to 70% of sufferers never experience any external physical symptoms. In other words, just because you aren’t showing any signs, doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re free from infection.

That said, we’re well aware from talking to our customers that visiting an STI clinic in person can be a stressful and unwelcome experience.

In light of this we have partnered with one of the largest sexually transmitted disease laboratories in Britain. They currently run STI tests for both private and public health centres from right across the country. Our partnership means that we can detect and diagnose STIs for you, without you having to present yourself at an STI clinic in person.

The Problem with STIs

Sexually transmitted diseases can cause a range of unpleasant symptoms that can be both painful and embarrassing. However, more worryingly, some STIs can be far more serious and lead to long term health problems such as infertility. Furthermore, depending on the STI in question, a surprising number of those infected experience little or no symptoms – meaning that even a seemingly infection-free individual may still be suffering internally.

If you are concerned that you could have contracted a sexually transmitted infection at any point then it makes sense to undergo an STI test. In this way you can be certain that you’re not risking your own health. In addition, it makes sense to ensure you’re not carrying an STI that could infect your sexual partner.

Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Infections

Our services go further than just diagnosing STIs; we are also able to prescribe a wide variety of treatments to combat common sexually transmitted infections such as bacterial vaginosis, chlamydia, herpes and genital warts.

Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment (Metronidazole)

While not officially a sexually transmitted disease, bacterial vaginosis can affect the female genitals.

At present, the cause of bacterial vaginosis isn't fully understood but essentially leads to an imbalance in the bacteria normally present in the vagina. The internal environment of the vagina changes such as that the normal bacteria levels drop, while other less pleasant forms of bacteria take over.

This can result in vaginal discharge and unpleasant smells, though a surprising number of women suffering from vaginosos display no outward symptoms.

Treatment: Metronidazole (oral antibiotic tablets)

Chlamydia Treatment (Azithromycin)

Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections. Part of the reason for this is that so few people actually show any kind of symptoms when infected. For example it is claimed that up to 80% of women who contract chlamydia never show any symptoms.

As a result it is often passed invisibly from one individual to another, without anyone experiencing any negative symptoms, slowly spreading through the population.

In cases where symptoms are observed though, they are far from pleasant. Common symptoms of chlamydia include vaginal bleeding and pain when trying to urinate.

More advanced cases of chlamydia can lead to infertility in women so it is essential to diagnose and treat chlamydia as soon as possible after infection if permanent damage to the reproductive organs is to be avoided.

Fortunately a dose of Azithromycin is normally very effective for fighting the infection and can be prescribed by our doctors after a free online consultation.

Genital Herpes Treatment (Aciclovir)

The biggest worry with genital herpes is that the virus will never fully go away. The virus that causes genital herpes can remain within your body for life and may flare up at any time.

The symptoms of herpes are particularly unpleasant and may include blisters, red raw patches or skin or itching and tingling around the genitals or anus. It’s no surprise that genital herpes is considered one of the least pleasant STIs as a result.

Fortunately the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) can normally be controlled effectively through the use of anti-virals like acyclovir.

Treatment: Aciclovir (oral antiviral tablets)

Genital Warts Treatment (Aldara Cream)

Genital warts are caused by the same Herpes Simplex Virus that causes genital herpes. As a result, genital warts are probably best thought of as another symptom of the same infection.

Once again though there are treatments that can help with the symptoms of genital herpes. Most commonly a regular application of aldara cream can reduce swelling and discomfort after minimal applications.

Treatment: Aldara 5% Cream
